Metamorphosen Berlin

The Chamber Philharmonic Metamorphosen Berlin was founded by Indira Koch and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt in 2010. Members of the Chamber Philharmonic are musicians from the leading Berlin orchestras, renowned chamber musicians and international prizewinners, including those of the International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, the International ARD Competition and the German Music Competition. Since its founding, the Chamber Philharmonic Metamorphosen Berlin has performed in numerous concerts in Germany, Spain and Switzerland with famous soloists such as Johannes Moser, Gary Hoffman, Frans Helmerson, Julius Berger, Jens Peter Maintz and Young-Chang Cho. Metamorphosen Berlin has performed at the Berlin Music Festival and the Chamber Music Festival in the Great Hall of the Elbphilharmonie, among others. The ensemble has now launched its own concert series in the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Berlin Philharmonie and the Elbphilharmonie. In the next season, the Chamber Philharmonic will also tour Spain with Johannes Moser and Germany with Camille Thomas.
Metamorphosen Berlin has been committed to new works since its founding:
The Berlin composer Helmut Abel wrote his "Concertino" for the ensemble, which was premiered by Indira Koch and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt as soloists. On November 16, 2017, the Chamber Philharmonic Metamorphosen Berlin premiered the double concerto "Lumiere" by Sören Nils Eichberg for 2 cellos with the soloists Frans Helmerson and Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt in the Konzerthaus Berlin on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the death of Mstislav Rostropovitch. George Alexander Albrecht wrote a double concerto for the two artistic directors, which will be premiered next season. This season, Metamorphosen Berlin was able to win the renowned composer Enjott Schneider as its first Composer in Residence. In March 2022, the world premiere of his work Requiem – About Insects & The Microbiotic World for string quartet and percussion took place at the Konzerthaus Berlin, followed in May 2022 by a major evening at the Philharmonie Berlin: Magic of Crime with Dietmar Wunder, the German voice of James Bond (aka Daniel Craig), as narrator and moderator.
In 2015, Sony Classical released the first CD, "Inspiration," with works by Dvorak, Suk and Victor Herbert. In April 2017, the second CD was released, with a recording of all of Peter Tchaikovsky's works for strings. These CD recordings have received excellent international reviews and have received awards including the Melómano de Oro. Last year, the latest recording, "Very British," with works by Elgar, Britten, Warlock and Jenkins, received the highest international critical acclaim. BBC Music Magazine, for example, wrote: "This is an album that should redefine what is means to be "very British." Hessischer Rundfunk describes the recording as "devoted sound culture at its finest!"
